ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Born in Jamaica, Carol is part of a large, close knit family. She began her career as an educator in 1980 when she finished her teacher education programme and started her first job teaching English at the secondary school level. Her love for story writing and content development led to a change in career from a teacher of English to an Instructional Designer.

As a child growing up in Jamaica, Carol loved reading good adventure and mystery stories and listening to folklore stories about

Anansi, the Rolling Calf, the Blackheart Man and many other folklore characters. Her travels across the Caribbean opened up a new world of fascinating folklore characters that are found in these countries. In the past, these stories were passed down through the strong oral, story telling tradition that existed in the Caribbean.

Today, many of these stories are no longer being told and Caribbean children know more about characters from other parts of the world than they do about Caribbean folklore characters through the digital content to which they are exposed. Therefore, one of the reasons Carol is interested in writing is to ensure that the Caribbean story telling tradition continues and that current and future generations of children do not forget these stories that form such a rich part of the history and culture of the Caribbean. The Quest series provide a medium through which Caribbean stories are told in a way that is interesting, intriguing and exciting for young readers.

While completing her PhD in Instructional Design and Technology, Carol completed a project in utilizing the affordances of new and emerging technology to continue the story telling tradition in the Caribbean.

The Quest adventure series was born from this assignment which further brought out her interest in writing. Writing these stories has provided the perfect opportunity to combine Carol’s love for reading with her experience as a teacher of English as well as her training in Instructional Design and Technology and digital content development to create Caribbean stories that capture the essence of what makes us truly Caribbean.

In addition to being passionate about writing and developing digital content, Carol likes to spend time on her farm and to go fishing with her husband Albert.
