ANANSI

The word Anansi comes from the language spoken by the Akan people in Ghana, West Africa and it means spider. Stories about Anansi started in Ghana and were told in the Caribbean by African slaves.

In the Caribbean, Anansi, the spiderman is known for being a trickster. He can take the shape of a human or another animal.  Anansi is also very clever, sly and cunning. Because he is very lazy and greedy, Anansi uses his cleverness to get what he wants without doing any hard work.

In Jamaica, Anansi is known as a ginnal which means that he is always trying to trick people to get what he wants.
