Sisimito: The Big Foot of Belize

The Sisimito is a tall and hairy male monster with a head that looks like a human’s and a body covered in long fur. He is very strong and can tear a human body apart with a simple snap of its hands.

The Sisimito monster growling at Matt and Carmilka in The Quest: The Golden Amulet eBook.

The Sisimito is much taller than the average human and has four fingers on each hand - both without a thumb. Their feet face backward and they have no knees. He often follows the footprints left by humans to catch them, kill them, and then rip off their thumbs.

Now, according to folklore, you can outwit the Sisimito by:

  • dancing around in a circle. He will try to follow you but because he has backward-facing feet, he will stumble and fall.

  • staying close to a body of water. Sisimitos are afraid of water.

  • bringing along a dog. Sisimitos are also afraid of dogs.

Known only in Belize, the Sismito is also called Sisimite, Sisemite, and Itacayo. His female companion is known as the Sisimita.
